According to a recent announcement by the Tianjin Science and Technology Commission (TSTC), the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Food Science and Health was officially approved by TSTC and founded at the School of Medicine, Nankai University. This laboratory, as the second Tianjin Key Laboratory in the Medical School, is organized and managed by the research team in food science and health.
The Tianjin Key Laboratory of Food Science and Health is aiming to fully integrate resources from some predominant disciplines at Nankai University, including medicine, chemistry, pharmacy, life sciences, environmental sciences, law, economics and management. Thanks to the support from school-level and university-level research platforms, this laboratory has already developed some unique research features compared with counterparts in agricultural and light industry universities, and opened up some new areas for the basic research in food nutrition and health.
The laboratory, focusing on food science and health, is recently working in four research areas including food nutrition and health, mechanisms in food quality control, analytical technologies in food nutrition and quality, and food industry economics and safety management strategies. In order to support the development of food industry in Tianjin and nationwide, the research team is dedicating to establishing food nutrition theories and security technology systems for healthy food from the perspective of food nutrition, quality, function and materials.
