School of Medicine Holds Academic Exchange Conference of Outstanding Students

In order to further implement the training program for top-notch students in basic disciplines, and promote academic exchanges and results display of top-notch students, the hybrid 2021 Academic Exchange Conference of Outstanding Students for Top Students in Basic Disciplines 2.0 (Medical Psychology Group), hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training of the Ministry of Education and undertaken by NKU, was successfully held on November 6 in the lecture hall of the Medical International Collaborative Innovation Center.

At 9:00 am, the outstanding student representatives, liaison officers, college administrators and teacher representatives from participating universities in the Training Plan for Students in Basic Disciplines 2.0, as well as representatives of the “Questions and Conjectures” application projects gathered together. The meeting was hosted by Jin Xin, Associate Professor of the School of Medicine, andProfessor Shan Changliang from the School of Pharmacy and Professor Xu Yang from the School of Medicine were invited to attend the meeting. The meeting also attracted more than 40 teachers and students from the School of Medicine of Nankai University to interact on site.

At the meeting, outstanding student representatives from scientific research bases of Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Beijing Normal University, China Pharmaceutical University and other universities reported the latest scientific research results in the fields of basic medicine, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, etc., in details. They carried out high-level exchanges on topics such as neuron involvement in memory coding, new model organisms for aging studies, cardiovascular directed differentiation and regulation mechanisms, oncological drug screening, immunotherapy for complex diseases, and research and development of targeted drug delivery system, demonstrating unique innovation and solid scientific research strength in model construction, achievement application and product development. The teachers and students at the meeting not only shared their experience and thoughts in study, life and internship, but also had a lively discussion on how to improve scientific literacy, innovation awareness and scientific research capabilities. The students asked questions and inquiries and expressed their opinions, and the open and active discussion atmosphere inspired all the medical students present. The students also spontaneously created an academic WeChat group for more in-depth multi-level scientific research exchange activities in the future.

At the end of the academic exchange meeting, Zhang Yan, Vice Dean of NKU School of Medicine, said in her concluding speech that the Academic Exchange Conference of Outstanding Students for Top Students in Basic Disciplines 2.0, a valuable academic exchange platform where the latest scientific research results of the top-notch students training bases in various universities are presented, benefited all the attending teachers and students, promoted good scientific research cooperation between fraternal universities and laid a good foundation for the interdisciplinary and high-level talent training between universities in the future. Zhang said that the epidemic has changed people’s lifestyles, but it will not change our attitude towards scientific research. She encouraged the medical students present to learn the hardworking spirit from the outstanding student representatives, make strict demands on themselves, tap their own potential, seize the opportunity of the scientific research and innovation projects of the School and NKU, and strive to create newer and better biomedical scientific research results.
