The 2023 Annual Conference of American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) was held in San Francisco, USA. Professor Wang Yan, a renowned ophthalmologist and Dean of the Institute of Ophthalmology of Nankai University, was invited to attend the conference and give a presentation.

At the conference, Professor Wang Yan shared her experience on the latest minimally invasive refractive surgery methods and offered some guiding suggestions to surgeons from all over the world. As the executor of China's first minimally invasive refractive surgery, Professor Wang Yan talked about the state-of-the-art surgical techniques, including her valuable technical experience and suggestions, and demonstrated the latest scientific research achievements and applications of her team in biomechanics and AI, proving the rich clinical experience and research innovation capabilities of Chinese ophthalmologists. Renato Ambrosio, President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), highly lauded Professor Wang's contributions, and believes that China's refractive surgery technology has reached the internationally advanced level and has become an integral part of and played an indispensable role in the international community of refractive surgery.

Professor Wang Yan is currently the Dean of the Institute of Ophthalmology of Nankai University and a doctoral supervisor of the NKU School of Medicine. She has won the first prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Tianjin three times, and was honored as National Excellent Science and Technology Practitioner, National May Day Labor Medalist and winner of Outstanding Contribution Award of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO).
